Road Trip Observations 3-27-12
Mar. 27th, 2012 11:46 pmI Think Not(t).
Sometimes I think. Sometimes, not(t) so much. These are my thoughts, or not.
Today I embarked on a solitary road trip from Pittsburgh, PA to Albany NY to go see my Dad and hang out with him for a week. The reason for driving is there is a large flat screen TV involved that I will be bringing back home (YAY!!!). This was is my second longest solo drive EVER, but when I moved and drove from Southern NH to Pittsburgh, I did some company... 2 cats, 2 parrots and 1 Min Pin. This trip, I left the menagerie with a house sitter and truly voyaged out on my own. In an effort to keep myself entertained and awake, I kept a mental log of observations along my journey.
So Some Trip Observations:
The highest elevation was 1836 feet - somewhere near the PA/NY Border (about 1/2 hour from NY I think).
Saw 5 Nuke Plants - can't mistake those towers or the white plumage of mist that comes from them. I hadn't realized PA was the land of such "power". Conversely, I noticed 2 Windmill Farms in PA as well.
Viewed 12 different license plates (that I remember): PA, NY, NJ, MO, MA, SD, SC, NC, AZ, NH, VA & Quebec
Counted 21 piles of dead meat (aka roadkill): deer, raccoon, wild turkey and/or vultures (or perhaps turkey vultures...? - they were large and feathery), and a few unrecognizable piles of yuck.
Sirius blacked out 4 times - mostly when I passed through huge carved out rock masses at higher elevations.
Took 5 pit stops (one courtesy of Magellan that did not recognize the change from I-84 to the NYS Thruway had been reconstructed - yeah that was interesting), including 2 rest stops to stretch my legs.
Janet Jackson is GREAT when one needs to get more perky or less road weary.
Lastly - 446 miles ~ 7 hours and 45 minutes ~ one tank of gas.
Yes, yes, I do observe and count weird stuff. :)
